Fix what?
Nothing will persuade the D7800 to work with the Nighthawk app.

You need new firmware to work with the Nighthawk app. The D7800 is to old (2015) for that.

AC2600 is not a unique Netgear model number. Many devices come with the AC tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and others, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds. Some AC2600 routers work with the app, but not your modem/router..

You refer to the genie. This could be one of several things, the browser interface, a Windows or Mac program for a PC, or a mobile Android/iThing app. Netgear labels them all as genies. Which were you using?
The desktop app is still around.

For the mobile app, you may have to find one of those sites that stores old sofwtare.
What do you plan to use the genie to do?
While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.
You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

The old genie may have done some of that and maybe still around, but parental controls are a changing arena. Netgear has removed the ability to use the old free parental controls, although there are ways around that.
Open DNS backed out of the Netgear collaboration on free parental controls some time ago.

Netgear now offers various subscriptions for parental controls.

Other devices support Circle, another subscription service. But that too seems to be a moveable feast:

There may be more recent stuff out there. It is hard to keep up.

Unfortunately, Netgear and most brands have pulled out of the DSL modem market.
I don't think any of Netgear's shrinking range of DSL modem routers supports the paid for parental controls.
If you are using the D7800 as a modem/router, then you can use it in modem only (bridged) mode and then add a new router to the network. It has a few drawbacks, but maybe not fatal.
