Re: Access ReadyNas Ultra2 OS6
Finally the local PC repair store could obtain a 2 GB memory, since a mainstream 2 GB does not work. However the NAS still does not let me in. Any more suggestions would be very appreciated.

Re: Access ReadyNas Ultra2 OS6
Might be worth putting both NAS on the same subnet, just to be certain that makes no difference.
Another thing you could try is to
- power down and take out the disks
- either zero them or use the windows disk manager to remove the partitions
- put one back in the NAS, and power up
That should do a fresh factory install, but also avoids the time spent on the RAID sync.
If that does work, just hot-insert the second disk and the RAID will sync.

To be sure I have some additional questions.

Not possible for the moment. Subnet 2 is not att home. That NAS works fine.

OK
- either zero them or use the windows disk manager to remove the partitions
I have to insert the in a adapter and connect to the computer?
What does "zero" mean?
How to remove a partition?
Same as formatting?
Where is the OS stored? On the disks?

That is what I am recommending (or use SATA if you can).
@Ylle wrote:

Writing zeros to every sector on the disk. If the disk is a Seagate, you can do that with Seatools. (not sure if Seatools will also let you do that with another brand). A simple overwrite is sufficient.

NOT the same as formatting. You want to return the disk to a blank (unformatted) state.
- Go into the windows disk manager ("create and format hard disk partitions").
- right click on each partition and choose "delete volume".
@Ylle wrote:

The OS is installed on the disks from the flash memory (there is a 4 GB partition for it on the disks). It is mirrored on all the disks. The NAS normally boots from the OS on the disks.

Re: Access ReadyNas Ultra2 OS6
I went back to the local PC store. After a discussion the owner suggested a factory reset. I thougt I already had done that, but anyway after a while the power button switched from blinking to a steady light. We connected to a computer and got the login promt!
Back home I logged in (changed password etc) and now the system is updating the firmware.
So hopefully mission is completed.

I was also thinking that the first factory reset hadn't taken.
The procedure I recommended would have resulted in a factory reset, but would not have required any use of the boot menu.
In any event, I am glad you are up and running.

But...
I have changed the admin password and noted in F-Secure. However the password i wrong! I am locked out.
I guess I have to do a factory reset again. Since I failed last time I would be happy if someone could share an instruction.
Everything else seems to work fine.

An OS reinstall will be quicker. It will
- reset the admin password to password
- reset the network configuration to DHCP with no bonding
- disable volume quota (which can be re-enabled on the volume settings wheel).
Other settings (and any data on the NAS) remain intact.
Instructions are on pages 14-15 of the hardware manual:

Re: Access ReadyNas Ultra2 OS6
In the process of installing the new OS 6.10.8, I was to quick to change the password. When the process was finished and the disks synced the password was reset to ... password; not netgear1; not admin!
I really feel like a computer novice.
Thands for all help!

Why on earth waste time and effort installing the outdated .8 with ReadyNAS OS Software Version 6.10.9 available for more than a half year?
