ReadyNAS Introduction or EOL dates

I would like to purchase a new NAS device for backups.  I've had two different ReadyNAS devices in the past.  Last time I purchased one, it was right before they announced end of life or end of support.  I really just need the smallest version (lowest cost) NAS that they have which I believe currently is the RN212.

Any idea when these were introduced or if they will soon be end of life?

What is the next model up (I guess that is the RN422) and same question.

I currently have an Ultra4Plus and I was going to demote that to a backup drive and use the new device as the main storage.

I've had to WD backup devices and they both died within 2 years.

Found this in the thread listed above on 2017-07-08

RN102/RN104 - (now discontinued)

RN202/RN204 - (now discontinued)

RN212 / RN214

RN312 / RN314 / RN316 - (now discontinued)

RN422 / RN424 / RN426 / RN428 - Intel Atom C3000 Quad Core / 4GB DDR4

RN516 - Intel Core Ivy Bridge i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual Core / 4GB (Now Discontinued)

RN524 / RN526 / RN528 - Intel D-1508 Dual Core 2.2GHz / 4Gb DDR4

RN626 / RN628

RN716 - (not sure of its status)

This model obsolecense is sort of what I am worried about (that and the OS will no longer be supported on a model that I purchase).

I can't seem to find many of these devices when I go look to purchase them online.  RN212 or RN422 (way more cost than RN212).

Is Netgear staying current in this product line or are they phasing it out?

There's no evidence that they are phasing it out, and you can migrate the disks to another OS-6 ReadyNAS (for instance the RN422) if you wish - even though the RN422 is an x86 platform and not an Arm.

The RN212 was introduced ~2Q 2016, the RN422 was introduced ~4Q 2017.

Current prices for both NAS look rather high right now - I suspect the coronavirus impact has resulted in lack of inventory.  Maybe hold off for another month or two.

Head to https://www.netgear.com/about/warranty/ for more information on EoL, click the link on the "End of Life" text for the listing. Plenty of RN SKUs listed...
