RN202 ReadyNAS 6.10.10: can't install apps?

Hi, I recently updated my RN202 ReadyNAS from 6.10.8 to 6.10.10 and now, when I try to install an app, it says "App installation is no longer supported with App Upload or Available Apps."

What the ****?

And if it can't be fixed, is there a way to downgrade back to 6.10.8?

Thanks,

Greg

You can downgrade to 6.10.9 (or 6.10.8) by manually downloading the arm zip

I suggest 6.10.9.

Extract the image file from the zip, and then manually install the image from system->settings->update in the web ui.  The install control will be on the left side of the screen.  The NAS will prompt you to reboot when finished.

But installs will likely still fail, due to the deprecation of Debian 8 last year.  There is workaround needed using ssh - see this discussion thread:

Post 1 and 37 are particularly relevant.

Note if you are ok with installing using ssh, you can stay on 6.10.10, and just apply the apt changes in the thread above.

Re: RN202 ReadyNAS 6.10.10: can't install apps?

Thanks StephenB, that's helpful.

I think the only app I need - from the "Available Apps" - is PHPMyAdmin.

Is that still supported in 6.10.9?

The apps (no matter how installed) often need Debian libraries that are downloaded from the internet when the app is installed..  So you will need to make the apt configuration changes from the post I linked.

Note those changes are needed because the Debian community archived the libraries - so it doesn't matter what version of OS 6 you are running.

I was also able to downgrade to 6.10.9, but now the next issue is that the domain https://apps.readynas.com/ now simply redirects to netgear.com.

Is there a community based backup repo of readynas apps?

You can make one using apt-mirror - as described in post 16 here:

Is there a particular app that you want?

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you have the complete list of apps? list of apps?

Did you look on the "Available apps" page on the NAS web ui?  That should still be populated.

If you don't see them there, you could also look here:
