AC2200 vs AC3000

Purchased AC2200 Orbi set up and now see NG has a Orbi AC3000.  Is their relevance to change up?

If you are satisfied with the performance of your Orbi, there is little to be gained by spending more money.  WiFi systems are described by adding together the maximum speed of the 2.4G channel, maximum speed of the 5G channel, and maximum speed of the backhaul channel (if any).  It's a totally stupid number that has little relevance to actual use.

The AC3000 product (Orbi RBR50 router and RBS50 satellite) does have slightly more powerful radios and a higher maximum backhaul rate.  If your internet service is gigabit speed and you do TONS of 4K video streaming through the satellite, then "maybe" you would notice better performance from the more expensive product.

Just as a side note, the Google WiFi that gets such high reviews is rated AC1200.  It does not have a separate radio for 5G backhaul.  We do not see people claiming, "I had to dump that Google WiFi and get an Orbi because the Google sucked."

So, I would say, "don't rush out and spend more money just yet."
