Add a satellite or upgrade system?

I need another satellite.  Should I add onto this older system or start fresh?  Not a large house but looking for lightning speed internet! :)   Thanks, Adam

The newest WiFi standards (i.e. "lightning speed") depend on having WiFi6 devices to take advantage of them and (as FURRYe38 implies) having an ISP connection that will deliver extreme speed.

This is a terribly awkward time to consider a major investment in WiFi ( such as tearing out the Orbi system and replacing the entire thing with "something else"). Every manufacturer is announding "new, improved, wonderful WiFi6" products. Netgear has two different lines of WiFi6 routers.  WiFi6 (plus?) is supposed to be finalized in less than a year. Do you go with D-Link, Netgear, Ubiquity, Google, LInksys... who?

I intend to let the market shake out and stick with my 4-year old Orbi for at least another year.  I recently need to "expand" my WiFi coverage and found that Amazon is selling the Orbi RBS40V for $99.  Because I have only a 200mb ISP link, my aging Orbi provides more "speed" than I am paying Spectrum for.  When I own some WiFi6 products, it may be time to take another look.

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
