Adding new wired RBS50 to existing mesh
I have an existing mesh consisting of an RBR50 router and one RBS50 satellite, all wireless. I have a new office in my rear yard and want to add a new RBS50 satellite there. I have an ethernet ca...

Sort of. I enabled beam-forming on the router and changed the placement of the satellite in the office and it now seems to be within wifi range and everything works now. Both satellites are connected directly to the router over 5G and backhaul status is good.

How is the RBS in the remote location ethernet connected to the RBR?
Be sure to ethernet connect the RBS using one of the following connection methods. https://kb.netgear.com/000051205/What-is-Ethernet-backhaul-and-how-do-I-set-it-up-on-my-Orbi-WiFi-System 📡
Be sure ethernet cabling is good and in good working order.
CAT6 lan cable is recommended.
Test the RBS while in same room as the RBR with a ethernet cable connected behind the RBR.

Yep, the router is connected to an ethernet socket in the wall, and the satellite is connected to the ethernet wall socket in the office. Cable run underground between the two (about 20 metres). Electrician tested the cable connectivity on install.
The other satellite remains wireless only.
Is that OK, or do all satellites have to use ethernet?

Hmm. Once I turned on beam forming it all seems to work now without the ethernet connection after all 🤷‍♂️

Possible some odd cabling issue between these two point.
No, RBS can be wireless or mixed.

FURRYe38 is correct on several points:
- Each satellite can be connected either over WiFi or Ethernet. They do not all have to be connected the same way.
- It is a common practice to connect a satellite to the router with a short Ethernet cable while in the same room before relocating it to the remote location.
- This verifies that the satellite functions correctly when 'wired'.
- If the satellite does not work over a wired connection at the remote location, that puts the focus on the cable path. Even though electricians "test" cable installations, very few of them have the $5,000 cable testers required to certify data cable. There often are problems with the RJ45 jacks that terminate each end that will satisfy a $50 Home Depot tester, but fail to deliver a solid data connection.
If it is now working the way you want, there is little incentive to investigate further. However, if the connection drops back to 2.4G, it might be a good idea to move the satellite inside and test the wired connection at the router.
