A number of people have reported issues like this with any version after 2.3.5.30 (which I have stayed on). It appears that you have two choices:
- Remain on "the latest", 2.5.1.8 and get the benefit of several bug fixes, including things like fixing an issue with Sonus speakers, but having the Attached Devices web page (or the Device Management screen on the "app") be horribly messed up, ot
- Manually install the last software that appears to have stable device tables, which is 2.3.5.30.
- Perform a "factory reset" on the Orbi, which "cleans out everything" but leaves the Orbi at the current firmware 2.5.1.8 and do a complete setup again. Some people appear to have found that the newest release works for them after the factory reset.
It is frustrating beyond belief that a company as old and trusted as Netgear cannot seem to modify device firmware without introducing new issues. (I do not find any solace in the fact that Microsoft has mangled Windows 10 updates two times this year. Two goofs do not make everything all right.)
When I look at the forum for two weeks and see no more complaints about the latest firmware, I may "take the plunge" and update.
This probably wasn't what you wanted to hear. Sorry.

I just performed a factory reset and had the same issue if anyone is still interested in upgrading. I thought holding out would help but it still seems like the same issues are happening. It seems like the attached devices freezes in whatever state is detected when the router boots up. Even updating device names and models don't stick once you hit save.

I am unable to replicate this on my Orbi RBR50, running firmware 2.5.1.8, in Access Point (AP) mode, using the Orbi web interface.
On the Attached Devices page, I click on a device, which opens up the description window. I can change the device name, the device type, and the device model. Click "Apply", and they change.
One thing I did note is that the change is not "instant." This Orbi has only a few devices connected to it, and it seems to refresh the web display about every seven seconds. When I click on "Apply" and the Attached Devices display comes back, sometimes it takes one or two refreshes for the display to reflect the new name, model, or type.
Is "Save" another word for "Apply"? Or, is the device (re)naming being done on an Orbi "app" rather than the web interface?

Its been a couple hours and still no change, the attached devices list still hasn't even updated to include all my devices yet. I'm thinking of resetting once more to see if it helps.

What is the Mfr and model# of the host router that the RBR is connected too?
What browser are you using? Try IE11, Firefox or Opera.
Be sure to clear ALL broswer caches before entering into the RBRs web page.
