Wanted to add that you did exactly what we advice people to do: test the modem connection.
It would probably be a good idea to "double check" the modem by turning it off, waiting 30 seconds, turning it back on, and try plugging in the laptop again. (That's the step I seem to omit too often. "If in doubt, restart it.")

Apologies, it's rbk13-100cns, bought at https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/netgear-orbi-ac1200-whole-home-mesh-wi-fi-5-system-rbk13-100cns-3-pack/13974527
1 x Orbi Router (RBR10)
2 x Orbi Satellites (RBS10)
The app can indeed locate it, confirm wires connected, but when comes to checking internet step, it fails. When I connect directly to modem with laptop, I have to manually assign IP address to access the modem administration panel, at 192.168.0.1, by default obtain ip address automatically won't work. Not sure if that makes any difference but thought I'd mention.
Do I have to manually set anything up in orbi administration panel or anything? Perhaps my sequence of turning things off and connecting not correct? Thx for help

Yes, it makes a huge difference. This sounds like it is time to call the ISP. Default behavior for the Orbi is to get an IP address from the ISP using DHCP. (The same process user devices use to get an IP address from the Orbi for themselves.)

- MrBlue13Apr 02, 2021AspirantOk thanks for reply. When I manually set ip address to 192.168.1.110, in the range modem suggests, I can connect to the gateway admin page from pc, but there is no internet. Looks like it's a bridged modem. When I set obtain automatically on PC, internet works but I can't access modem admin page. Not sure why modem won't assign IP.
I called the ISP and they said since internet works when connecting PC to modem, orbi should work. It did work with the older modem they gave me, just not this new one. So I know orbi works.
I'll try the reset again, but running out of options, not sure new option is to get another modem.- MrBlue13Apr 02, 2021AspirantOk finally working! With one more attempt and more patience, the reset of both devices, unplug all ethernet and coaxle and waiting few minutes, orbi has found its way. Thx for help.
