What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Wire connect a PC to the router and factory reset the router using the back push pin button for 15 seconds then release. Power OFF the ISP modem for 30 seconds than back on. Wait for the WHITE led to slowly pulsate on top of the RBR, then log in to orbilogin.com using a web browser and walk thru the setup wizard at 192.168.1.1. TBe sure to write down all important information for safe keeping later on.

What tells you this?
You don't need to register anything to use a second-hand router. Registering is for support and warranty, which don't apply.
Carry out a factory reset, get the documentation and set it up from scratch.
If you visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
you can feed in your model number and find the documentation for your hardware.
