Can't talk to 2.4 Ghz devices

My phone connect to 5 Ghz can't talk to devices on 2.4 Ghz.  I got a harmony hub and a NEST E thermostat that can't talk to my phone via the app.  Any ideas on what to do?

    I have a Nest thermostat. (The original - oldest - model.)

    Connecting the Nest to my WiFi was done on the Nest itself, through a (tedious) process of entering the WiFi password on the thermostat.

    Once connected to WiFi, the Nest app on both smartphones and tablets (Apple and Android) connects to the thermostat through the Nest "cloud". These devices are connected to WiFi at 5G. The Nest is connected at 2.,4G.  They do not connect directly to each other.

     

    Was this (newer) Nest (I presume a Google Nest rather than a "Nest" Nest), connected in a similar manner?
