CBR40 Sloooow Download 8-10M on Gig from Xfinity....HELP Please!!!

Bought CBR40 in February set up with Tech and Xfinity 600-900Mbps.

Ausust no change in service down to single digit speeds

Xfinity is Docsis 3.1; CBR40 3.0

Any settings need to be changed? (Called netgear and they want more money for tech.)

Thanks in advance for any direction and advice.

  • I'm surprised XF set you up on that plan. Most ISPs require a D3.1 supporting modem which the CBR40 is only D3.0.

I did have at one time my CBR40 on a 1Gb service however since my ISP now requires a D3.1 supporting modem. At the time I was seeing near 900Mpbs however seemed to struggle after a period of time, then saw lower 700-800Mb speeds. That was about 3 years ago.

The best recommendation would be to have the ISP downgrade to there top speed plan for a D3.0 modem so you get those full speeds with the CBR40 on a D3.0 speed package.

Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute them back ON.

I did all of the above, then broke down and bought the service contract. ($90)

Tech went through same procedures and they are shipping a new CBR40. ($20)

The ORBI has cost me the equivalent of a 3yr. Xfiniti rental.

Thank you for the info, the community is much nicer to deal with than netgear.

Again be sure the ISP is willing to support and make the CBR40 work on a 1Gig line. Ideally I don't think it would be wise to use the CBR40 on a 1Gig line.

        Good Luck.

  • do you have a screen snip of the cable connections page and logs?

Those help check signal quality from isp.
