Connect 2.4ghz device to Orbi RBR50

The prior conversation for this topic is closed and the link in message 3 comes up Access Denied.

The only other solution presented (reducing the output of the 5ghz band and moving the 2.4ghz device) does not work.

I called support and they basically said, “Too bad, you’re beyond the complimentary period. Fork over $99 and we’ll help you.” Not a customer friendly solution.

Is this really something you cannot do without paying for support?

The 2.4ghz device is an iRobot i4+ robot and the router is an Orbi RBR50.

Thanks for any advice.

There are several dozen conversations to 2.4 GHz over the years, probably more, on the connecting IoT things, so we have no way of knowing which message you hit.

Your problem is really with the people who designed the app that connects your device to the wifi. Have you asked them for help?

Unfortunately, your message tells us why you dislike Netgear for not offering free lifetime support but not much about the problem you have. So hard to know what to suggest.

    Did you try this?

      Some answers to your questions:

Yes, I have contacted iRobot and initial troubleshooting failed to resolve the issue. So, I am waiting for a reply from their tier 2 escalation. In the meantime, I’m continuing efforts to troubleshoot on my own.

Yes, there are many discussions about issues connecting 2.4ghz devices and I cannot find the link that I was denied access to. However, since it comes up as “Access Denied” it really isn’t useful in answering the question I posed: “Is this really something you cannot do without paying for support?

The issue is the iRobot i4+ not connecting with the Orbi RBR50. Some additional context on the symptoms: In using the iRobot app the set up process initially works well. It finds the device and it creates a WiFi SSID for the Roomba. However, the WiFi connection with the Roomba gets dropped so no connection can be made.

And for clarity, I do not know that the problem is “really with the people who designed the app that connects the device to the wifi” and it isn’t clear how you know that either. I also do not dislike Netgear for not offering free lifetime support. In fact, I’ve always loved my Orbi. As my question made clear, I am frustrated that the Orbi does not seem to offer a means of resolving this issue without signing up for a support plan. A well designed app (e.g. allow a guest network to only broadcast on 2.4ghz) or useful KB should make this common issue easy to resolve. That’s my frustration.

In the meantime, perhaps iRobot will have an answer, perhaps one of the articles you kindly forwarded will help. I’m trying all avenues and appreciate your sending those to me.

It is a common factor when people turn up here with that issue.

Many setup apps happily connect to 5 GHz wifi on a mesh wifi system and communicate with an IoT thing connected to 2.4 GHz.

Sometimes it is simply a matter of ignoring the "connect to 2.4 GHz" message that the app throws up.
