pete,
Do you have a link to the details on the upcoming firmware release?

A nice feature would be if I could turn off a band. E.g. just broadcast the 5Ghz band. That would solve this issue in that devices could only connect to e.g. the 5GHz band. And if I didn't get a connection, then:
1. It is my own fault since I turned off the band. And chances are great that I know why I am not getting a connection, since, well, I turned off the band. :)
2. It lets me troubleshoot, say, the location of the router and satellite.
Some could argue that it defeats the purpose of the Orbi, but not really. It still does what it is supposed to - give me wider coverage, I just choose with what band.

hi
no word on details for the firmware only its tentive release date
just as a side note you know on most device you can tell it to only connect to the 5 gig band and thus it wont connect to 2.4 gig

Yeah, know how to do it for Windows, but not for the iPhone?
