Firmware 2.5.1.16

Noticed post today stating that new firmware was automatically installed and the Orbi immediately started having problems.  Went to Advanced Tab, Administration, and "sure enough", my RBR50 says that it "downloaded" 2.5.1.16 and is ready to update.

So this is a real pickle.  Netgear is not "silently pushing" 2.5.1.6 to the Orbi.  On the other hand, the Orbi web interface Home Page now has a prominent announcement "A new firmware upgrade is available. Get here to get it."  We have moved from "the support page shows new firmware if you want to try it" to "new firmware is available, get it here."

So what do we make of this?  Is it still "my fault" if I click on this link, install new firmware, and "something goes wrong"???

I cannot contact Netgear for support.

As Pooh says, "Oh, bother."

  • "and is ready to update." Doesn't mean it was actually applied. I know on mine I saw the notification of the new udpate on the Home page at the top. This only means that the RBR detects a FW update, and that it hasn't applied it.

Look at the FW version loaded at the top right of the screen. IF it's still your prior version of FW, then the update hasn't been applied, it's just letting you know there is an update available and it's up to you to update to it. You'll have to select OK to update the system.

FYI, My 50 series is running v16 currently in AP mode. No problems seen thus far.

I just update my firmware to 2.5.1.16 from 2.5.1.8 last week. I notice all wireless device having frequent loss internet/wireless connection. After 5 days trial new firmware, I decide to rollback firmware to 2.5.1.8 for both router and satellites. Kindly advice me  any solution on frequent internet/wireless disconnect issue.

Try a factory reset on the RBR and RBS and setup from scratch after manually loading v16. I recommend manual download of the FW files, apply the RBS first then RBR lastly.

Factory reset and walk thru the setup wizard.
