Firmware auto-updated on my Orbi - is that expected?

I woke up this morning and logged into Orbi (since I've been having connectivity issues for a while) and I noticed the FW was upgraded to 1.10.1.2 or something. I KNOW I was on 1.9 before and never processed the upgrade to 1.10. I didn't know Netgear pushes FWs down to devices like this - is this normal? Seems a little risky and not common practice to me. Both my router and satellite are running the new FW - I have no clue when it was updated

Yep, Orbi isn't the kind of device that is for ultimate control.  It's for set and forget type use.  Part of it, is receiving new Firmware without intervention.

  • I just contacted the support on this because the update really messed up my system.  She recommended doing a factory reset (30 seconds on the reset button followed by 10 seconds unplugged), which I did and this have maybe started to act OK again.  I also asked how to avoid these auto updates and the answer is, "Regarding the automatic update, only the Firmware Version 1.2.0.6 does not push an automatic update."

    So enjoy the push updates.

I would give anything to "set and forget" the Orbi lol. More like set and be prepared to waste your time and be frustrated about your connection.

I have 90+ devices, and except for my S8+ on the first version of firmware Samsung had on it when released, I have no issues with my Orbi+2 sats.
