Fundamental bug in Orbi STILL has not been fixed.

I have a Synology DS-918+ and I have been very happy with it. Very stable and lots of excellent add-ons (like Plex server and the ability to run Virtual Machines and Dockers). I use it as my filer, a fax server and as my network DVR (Plex plus a HDHomeRun network tuner). The Synology NAS is not the problem. When I connect my laptop via the Asus Router I can reach it just fine, but when I connect via an Orbi mesh device, then often I can't reach it. The Synology NAS is not the only client in my home network that has the issue.
My network is a bit more complex than a middle of the road network as I have a combination of ethernet switches, some ethernet over coax connections using MOCA and an Orbi mesh. My main router is an Asus. The Orbi RBR20 is being used in AP mode.

This is the network topology:
The Asus Router is connects to the WAN (Verizon FIOS). It's ethernet ports connect to the Synology NAS, an older Netgear ReadyNAS (used for backup) and an eithernet-over-coax MOCA device. The coax runs through a coax splitter. At the end of the coax lines are a few other MOCA endpoints. One of the endpoints has an Orbi RBR20 router. In addition to the RBR20 I have 3 Orbi RBS20 satellites. All 3 Orbi satellites have some devices connected via its ethernet port.
Do I have it correct now? (see attached)
I agree that a laptop connected to a satellite (#2) should be able to connect with the NAS just as a laptop connected to the Asus (#1) can.
I am not confident that I understand MoCA well enough. (My experience was several years ago. It worked well, but I resented the coax cable clutter.) Part of me wonders, "what if I ran a ethernet cable (temporarily) between the Asus and the RBR20?" I actually have 50' and 100' ethernet cables in my "box of stuff" for experiments such as this. The family hates when I string them through the house, but it's usually only for a short time.
A 'port scan' using any of the available tools should produce the same results from location #1 as location #2.

Your drawing is a good representation of my home network. As I mentioned before, the coax fans out into a few coax-to-ethernet ports, but I would file this away under "details". It is probably not relevant for why some end points are sometimes are unreachable. Here is something else I noticed: when I can't reach an endpoint (e.g. the NAS), that client does show up in the connection list of the RBR20 and the Asus router. On the other hand there are clients that are reachable, but don't show up in the RBR20 connection list.
