FWIW Orbi RBR50 dead after power loss
The symptom is Red blinking power light. The unit was running 2.5.1.8 (latest firmware) so it wasn’t in the middle of an upgrade . It was plugged into a power strip as well. Had to run out to best buy...

Sounds like you have a warranty claim. Since your "90 day" are past, you might send a private message to one of the forum moderators (by clicking on their "name", such as Blanca_O ) and relate information needed for the warranty claim, such as your name, email, product serial number, date purchased, etc. Netgear prefers that users not post personal information on the public forum.
After reading articles about how "surge protectors" gradually lose capability as their metal oxide varistors (MOVs) degrade, I put all of my critical networking components on small battery backup units. It allows them to "ride through" all of those very short power outages (seconds) and provides additional surge protection.
Glad Best Buy had something in stock. This is not a time to waiting for Amazon.

Would that still apply for something that has an external DC power supply? It should regulate output I would think. Great idea anyhow, I'll order a Battery backup unit

Did you try a different power adapter on the original RBR? Power adapters take the hit when power outages happen. The RBR may still be ok, just the power adapter maybe bad...

yeah same problem, even used the old power adapter on the new unit and vise versa . New unit works with both adapters. The unit that died has been flaky in the past. During other power outages I'd have to power cycle it several times to get it to come up. Same syptoms, flashing red light. I just think it was bad from the get-go

Possibly.
Get you into a UPS for your router and modem.
Good Luck.
