Help with port forwarding

Hello,

I am trying to host a server for a PC game for my friends and myself.  The game is ARK: Survival Evolved specifically.  My Orbi is connected to an Arris tg1682 modem from Specrum.  I have no trouble setting up the port forwarding through the Orbi router, but it seems that the modem also may need to have the ports forwarded?  When I do port checking, the port always comes up as not open, even when using the Orbi router IP of 192.168.1.1.  The modem from Spectrum is located at 192.168.0.1 and I have set the port forwarding for both.

  • You really should only have one device functioning as a router in your network. That means either putting the TG1682 into bridge mode or enabling AP mode on the Orbi. Then set up port forwarding on the lone router.

Thank you for the fast response. My Orbi satellite is currently in my room in order to supply the wired connection. Due to logistics with my housemates, we cant get a good location for either the Orbi or cable modem to supply a network to the whole house wirelessly while still supplying a wired connection in my room. So I have a separate network I believe, but it is running through the cable modem(Arris). I don't know how to set up the other modes you mentioned properly, but I am willing to do what I need to.

Does upnp have anything to do with it?

      Thanks again.

OK so it looks like AP mode is what I want.  Once I set that, I would just use the same WIFI that my friends already use, and still plug in through the satellite in my room for a wired connection.

In this case, where would I do the port forwarding, from the cable modem?

And sorry for the repeat, but does upnp have anything to do with it?
