How 2 switch device from 2.4g to 5g on Orbi rbr50
- Mar 16, 2020
"Lag" is a very frustrating situation with internet gaming. It might be worthwhile to learn the connection rate of this PC to the Orbi. The PC network connections may show it. The Orbi "app" defiinitely shows what they call the "Link Rate" for each device.
Of course, a wired connection with an ethernet cable will produce the fastest connection to the Orbi. Between the Orbi and the game host is sort of out of anyone's control.

You can try turning down the power on the 2.4Ghz radio from 100% to 50% to see if his device will connect to the 5Ghz radio. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

The "lag" may have nothing to do with the wifi band. It may be because the device is too far from the wifi source and is struggling to communicate even at 2.4 GHz.
Switching to 5 GHz could actually make matters worse. 5 GHz is faster but has shorter range.
A better answer might be to invest in Powerline Ethernet which creates a wired link between the router and other devices.
