Can anybody give me instructions on how to do "my" test of my intranet.
This depends on on your technical sophistication.
- As you are no doubt aware, most WiFi devices describe the "Link Rate" of their WiFi connection. This Wikipedia article describes the maximum theoretical Link Rate for various 802.11 WiFi standards:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi
The maximum theoretical Link Rates are never achieved in actual practice.
- The tool I use personally is iperf3, which is available for nearly every possible platform:
https://iperf.fr/iperf-download.php
Basically, iperf3 is installed on two devices on the network. When run, it opens a connection between the two devices and transmits the maximum possible amount of data in a short time.
On a gigabit Ethernet connection between two computers that are both connected to the Orbi router Ethernet ports, I regularly measure over 900Mb/sec speed with iperf3. (A full gigabit is technically impossible because there is some 'overhead' even in Ethernet which consumes some of the bandwidth.
On a link between two devices connected over WiFi, measured performance is substantially less.
As michaelkenward pointed out, it might be helpful to know more detail about the perceived problem. What is not workiing right?
