How difficult Is it to add Plex to orbi's firmware?

What are the prospects of seeing Plex embedded within orbi's firmware? Of course, enabling the USB hard drive for an external drive would be helpful .. thoughts? Just purchase an X10 with the EX8000 (X6S) extender?

  • Roughly zero.

Plex requires far, FAR more compute power than is available in the Orbi.

Yup, the X10 has a quad core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 1GB of RAM and 512MB of flash memory. The Orbi has a quad core processor clocked at 710MHz, 512MB of RAM and 32MB of flash memory. The raw procesing power and 2x the RAM is the only reason why the X10 can run PLEX. I'm not sure how well it will run as a server unless there is some heavy ARM optimization at play.

Instead of PLEX I'd rather Netgear development optimized the web interface to be faster. Right now it's embarassingly slow compared to my old R7000 running XWRT
