How do you close open ports?

I have been running port scans using nmaps and other software.  It that shows there are 9 open ports.

If I use an online check to see if these ports are open they are reported as closed.

Should I be concerned about this?

Also my ISP has warned me about an open port 53 (DNS resover)   and possible DoS.

Thank you

K

Open ports facing the internet (WAN side) are a concern.

Open ports on the LAN side are required for the router to function.  Port 53 is DNS.  Port 80 is http.  Port 8443 is https. etc.

If you list the ports, perhaps people will notice one that is unusual.

When I do a port scan from one of the public scan sites, I believe it shows no ports: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

If 53 is not open, no device will be able to access the internet in any practical way.  Port 80 is used to administer the Orbi.

Since these are all on the LAN side, I do not see these as an issue (although I will continue to look at them).

MUCH more interested in what Gibson says about from the WAN side (where the bad guys are).
