How fast is Fast Roaming?
Hi all,
Anyone got any idea how quickly fast roaming should switch a device between Orbi Router/Satellites as they move betwen access points?
I posted ages ago about it all being a bit dimwitted not switching between APs, so enabled Fast Roaming, but seems fast isn't very, erm, fast.
Having recently upgraded my broadband speed through my ISP I've been monitoring my home network speeds (ok, been a bit bored..) and got to wondering if there was a set polling period that the router and satellites use to check if they have the devices on the best AP.
I have an RBR50 and 2x RBS50's and can see the transfer rate and signal to noise ratio varying as I move around the house and away from the AP that say, my MacBook Pro is connected to and it doesn't seem to flip to the closest AP.
Might be misunderstanding how Fast Roaming works and/or expecting too much from things.
It's no biggie, I still get pretty healthy Transfer rates, but just thinking it could be faster.
Thanks in advance,
Its the device that switches, not the router/satellite switching the device to different AP's. If you're router/satellite are to close it can have just as much effect on roaming as being to far away.
Also, fast roaming simplifies the "handshake" between device and router/satellite to make it a quicker process.
