IGMP encapsulation in PPPoE
Meanwhile in Germany.. As there have been multiple firmware updates for Orbi and I played a change of VDSL modem game, I thought to give the Orbi again a shot with IPTV from Telekom Germany.
And still not much luck there. Multicast just doesn't seem to work if Orbi is acting as a PPPoE dial in device. However, I get exactly the same behavior with a Draytek Vigor 165 IF the option "Add PPP header - Encapsulate IGMP in PPPoe" is not selected. If I use Vigor as a router, immediately after selecting this option, the multicast starts to work. If it's not selected, the symptoms are exactly the same as with Orbi. Meaning that multicast switch in the IPTV just doesn't seem to work.
Can someone here explain what is that option actually supposed to do in addition to regular PPPoE functionality?
Why is something like that needed in the first place?
Is it now so, that Orbi is not doing it, whatever it effectively should be doing?

Somenthing to contact NG support about.
Good Luck.
- SurffaApprenticeIn fact I'm quite familiar with PPP protocol with bells and whistles alone, but I'm a bit puzzled what is the thing with IGMP (and VDSL specifics) here. Does this mean that that not all the traffic over the VDSL lines is encapsulated, but just some authentication data?
And then of course the IPTV content apparently should as well, but Orbi is not doing that(?)
So I'm just saying that I don't really know how VDSL lines usually utilize protocols and wonder if someone could tell right away. Maybe even Netgear could make German Telekom IPTV finally work as well if here's something. Looks like there are other people out there hoping Orbis to work with it.Something to ask your ISP and NG support about then.
