Installation question
I just purchased an RBK53 and am about to set it up. Xfinity is my internet provider. I understand that I need to put my router in Bridge Mode before setting up Orbi.
My question is this: when I set up Orbi, should I use the same WiFi network name and password that the Xfinity router was set up with, so that all of my devices that were connected to the network (e.g. Ecobee thermostat, Keen Smart Vents, printers, etc.) automatically reconnect?
Or would it be better to start with a new network to avoid interference/confusion?

Lets get a better idea of your layout. you put xfinity router. you should either have a modem, router, modem/router combo device.
So please tell us more for model numbers.
1. modem?
2. router? or combo device?
If its a combo device, you should be placing that device in modem only mode. This disables the wifi and routing function if its a combo device.
then install the Orbi. You can use the same ssid.
Are you renting this modem/router/combo device from xfinity? buying your own modem pays of fairly quickly.

It's a combo device, the XB6. So would this be the order of steps:
- Put XB6 in Bridge Mode (this is "modem only")
- Set up Orbi RBK53 using same SSID/password as I was using with the XB6
I am considering switching to another ISP because I've been having issues with Xfinity that they can't resolve. In that case I'd be purchasing a modem.
Thanks.
that would be the best way to do it.
What issues are you having with comcast? I'm not a huge fan of there's because its a pain anytime you have to deal with them. I've found that I get the best results going through their online chat as I tend to get more accurate info as well as I can save the chats if they're disputing something with me later.
