I finally switched from the Orbi to an R8000. I use the Orbi in my pole barn. All my problems went away.

I don't think the issues you're seeing are a result of being close to the Router. If you see frequent disconnections then you must have other issues.

Is connecting satellites via Ethernet better than Wi-Fi? I would suspect so
I have 2 satellites and router and all are connected via cat6. 2 story townhome
I’m trying to achieve best 5ghz coverage as possible
Router and 1 satellite are same floor with max distance
2nd is on fist floor almost directly below
I’m concerned each item is too close to each other

Do these connection problems happen when a device 'moves' around the house?
On the Orbi web interface, the Advanced Tab->Advanced Setup->Wireless Settings, toward the bottom, are the three boxes checked
- Enable Beamforming
- Enable MU-MIMO
- Enable Fast Roaming

........Wired backhaul is -for sure- more robust than wireless, but you should get better backhaul throughput (up to 1.7 Gbps) on wireless if you have an RBK50.
