At the beginning of the week, a fiber optic connection from Eon Highspeed was activated for me. I have been trying to connect the RBR50 to a fiber optic modem from Eon for some time now, without success. (According to the description, the fiber optic modem already provides Ethernet). Is the connection even possible in this form? In other words: Can the Orbi be operated directly on a fiber optic modem? (purely technical) Or do I have to hang in between a Fritzbox, for example? I switched the Orbi to router operation, but the rest of the setup is not really clear to me. I would be grateful for any hints.
If the information on e.on's website is correct (details might differ regionally or depending on the age of the fibre deployment), you need to use a tagged VLAN (VID 132) on WAN in combination with DHCP. The VLAN tagging can be configured in the advanced configuration (towards the bottom in the left menu pane), it's not as straight forward as it could be - but the RBR50v2 has everything needed to work as router in this setup.
