laptop connecting to 2.4G but not 5
I have a Dell laptop. How do I force it to use 5. nstead of 2.4? It's comptabile and other devices, such as my Android phone, automatically do this. 2.4 and 5 SSID's are already turned off.

Be sure your wifi adapter drivers are updated.
Check with the mfr of this adapter to see if there is any kind of adapter UI configuration to make it connect to only 5Ghz signals. Some adapters have this feature.
Also try turning down the power output of the RBRs wifi radios from 100% to 50% and see if this changes anything. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

I have the latest driver for the wireless adapter, a Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165. I looked, but I couldn't find any option to limit it to 5.
I looked under advanced, advanced settings, but I couldn't find the RBR setting you mentioned. (And I don't know what RBR is).
Thanks for your help.

RBR is the Orbi router unit. Log into it's web page and make the adjustments there.

I found the radio strength options, and reduced the 2.4 to 50%. The Dell is still connected to 2.4

Try this:
- Win-S, search for "network connections"
- Right-click your Wi-Fi connection and select Properties
- Press Configure for your Intel adapter
- In the Advanced tab, do you see a property like "802.11a/b/g Wireless Mode"? My Intel Wireless-AC 9560 adapter lets me change that property to 5Ghz instead of Dual Band.

My Intel AC 7265 adapter also has a setting for Preferred Band (2.4G or 5G). What Fun!
(This is in a Lenovo laptop that is several years old.)
