I think maybe two topics have been mixed.
- The Orbi RBS50Y takes 12v at 2.5amp. The poster has Power over Ethernet (PoE) available outside the home, but PoE is 48v, not 12v. So, PoE cannot power the Orbi outdoor satellite.
- Given that PoE is available outside, the task is to find an outdoor rated unit that will operate over PoE, and there are many of them.
Of course, connecting an access point to the Orbi does not extend the Orbi "mesh".

No mixup. We use them quite often as an alternative. The devices available I refer to have adjustable power on the receiver side.
Couldn't get the pics to upload so here is a link to one we use:

Which might be fine but the RBS50Y is wireless only. It doesnt' have ethernet connection for the backhaul. And the cinderblock wall is the issue.
so if you've already got a wired connection with POE available, I'd be looking at the airbridge solution. Its even cheaper right now than the RBS50Y. it hits all the bases other than mesh.

My mistake. I don't use Orbi RBS50Y units because they don't hold up well in Florida. Instead, if an Orbi system, we use RBS50 satellites in waterproof outdoor weatherproof WIFI enclosure cabinet boxes. This way, if needed we can wire them for a better backhaul. And the boxes hold up better to the weather.

I'd believe the boxes hold up to the weather better. I'm in minnesota and don't dare run my rbs50y outdoors once it starts getting cold.
I'd imaging the florida weather is a little easier on it :)
