Lost internet connectivity & Arris TG1682G can't be reset through Xfinity remote troubleshooting app
Periodically, defined as every few weeks, I lose internet connectivity which requires the Arris TG1682G to be power cycled in order to get everything back. Anyone know how I'd go about identifying what's causing the Arris to hang? Oh, and the Xfinity troubleshooting app can't remotely reset the Arris when this happens.
The Arris is in bridge mode and I have an RBR50 (V2.5.1.16) controlling routing and wireless. There's one satellite on this network which is hardwired to the RBR50. There are several devices that I access remotely some which have IP address reservations and open ports but everything works until the Arris hang, of course.

it seems to point at an issue with the arris and not the router since the xfinity troubleshooter can't remote reboot it.
I'd check with arris.
Another option is to try the arris in router mode, disable its wifi, and run the netgear in access point mode.
Thanks plemans. I should have provided in my orignal post that this network was working prior to the Orbi utilizing a very old Apple TimeCapsule as the main WiFi router and a number of hardwired Apple AirPorts acting as access points around the house extending the network. The Orbis replaced the old Apple gear so I could truly take advantage of the bandwidth that Xfinity was giving me.
So the changes made between old and new are:
1) Replaced the TC with the RBR50
2) Removed all the old AirPorts
3) Added a satellite (hardwired)
4) Hung the TC off off the Satellite with an IP reservation and open ports so I could access it remotely
I'm thinking that I might need a good network sniffer to log traffic, cpturing activity just prior to the Arris hanging and/or take the TC off the network and wait to see if the hang occurs again. But I like your suggestion of promoting the Arris as the router and could try that too.

So the Arris TG1682G is connected to the Orbi router in AP or router mode?
Even if the Arris TG1682G is still in full router mode, the Orbi router should still work in router or AP mode. I have many Spectrum customers that prefer 2 networks, so I know it works flawlessly.
But if you do not want double a NAT situation, you would either run the Orbi in AP mode or bridge the Arris and run the Orbi in router mode.
If the TC router DHCP server is not disabled, you may want to see what IP addresses it is distributing for DHCP. Because if your Orbi, is distributing 192.168.1.x to the TC router, which is common, it may setup its DHCP server with the same IP addresses as the Arris TG1682G, (possibly 192.168.0.x).
