Massive Ping Spikes
This has happened before multiple times and I'm not sure if I ended up fixing it or if the problem just went away but every 15 seconds - 2 minutes I get massive ping spikes 600+ms, browsing is unaffe...

With limited testing I could not get the problem to repeat while plugged directly into my Orbi router.
I briefly looked into the custom voxel firmware and I think that's a bit too complicated for me.
It auto updating isn't exactly the issue it's that whenever I try to downgrade it never sticks, gets to around 94% and then reboots stopping the downgrade from happening. If I was able to downgrade the firmware then I would probably look into getting the auto updates to stop.

Hmmmm. That leaves one WiFi link operational when the PC is plugged into the satellite to router backhaul.

Installing Voxel's firmware for the RBR50/RBS50 is the same as installing firmware from Netgear with one wrinkle. The Orbi needs to be manually loaded with a specific version of Netgear before loading Voxel V2.5.2.4 (as explained in the Readme.1st file.)
- Download the zip file
- Extract the *.img file from the zip file
- On the Orbi web interface, navigate to the Advanced Tab, Administration, Firmware Update menu
- Select the Manual Update tab
- Browse to the location of the *.img file and choose it.
- Confirm update
- Watch the progress bar until the router restarts
If you don't like Voxel, manually install Netgear firmware over it. (Not that I am pushing Voxel. I used it and found it worked fine, but that was over a year ago. I didn't feel comfortable responding to questions on the forum while using non-Netgear firmware.)

This one is the killer. If the problem persists when the PC is moved back to the desired location (or, you get complaints about that long ethernet cable in the hallway) the only other potential solution is to use ethernet cable to connect the satellite and router. In my case, that is a "non-starter". Too difficult/expensive to install cable.
Have no idea why a manual update will not finish. I've done them dozens of times on two different Orbi routers. (One day I installed every firmware release from 2.3.5.0 to the present looking for when a certain feature changed.)

So once again just trying to change the firmware of my system, gunna explain step by step the process just to make sure it's not user error.
I go to my orbi panel on my desktop that is wired into the satellite, navigate to Advanced -> Administration -> Firmware Update -> Manual Update. Once there I click the little box next to my "RBS50" to update the satellite. I click update, it opens a window where I select the file which in this case was the "RBS50-V2.5.2.4.img" and uploaded it, then it asked me to confirm that I was selecting an older version then the update started and a little % load bar ticked up until 92% where I lost internet connection and it had the page not loading screen, the system finally turned back on about 5 minutes later still on the current version.
Would anything weird be effecting this? The browser I use? Just trying to cover all my bases. (Browser is Opera GX)

Ah, this is where my procedure is different. I always connect directly to the satellite web page. (Yes, every Orbi has a web page!) using the IP address of the satellite. i.e. http://192.168.1.5 for my RBS50. (I got IPs 2,3 & 4 connected to the Orbi before I connected the satellite.)
Why "go through" the router to get to the satellite when I can just go directly to it?
Firmware Update is the bottom menu item.

So after trying to go directly through the satellite and then I also tried a different browser just to be sure and experiencing the same thing every time. I decided to try it while not connected via ethernet into my satellite, but wirelessly to my router. When the firmware downgrade got to 100% and my satellite turned off, I could visit my routers website and see that the satellite IS on the older version I uploaded. It remained that way until I was able to connect to the satellite again and then it was on the updated version again. (Image of the satellite being on the old version but "waiting for connection" below)
I'm going to look into stopping auto updates to see if that fixes the problem.
