Max speed with gigabit fiber
Hi - I have an Orbi RBK50v2 system (RBR50v2 + 1 RBS50v2) connectded directly to the ONT. My provider is CenturyLink and I've subscribed to gigabit fiber. They left me originally setup with their ro...

Some have reported better speeds when in AP mode. Again, PPPoE seems to have problems on Orbi.

I finally got around switching to AP mode and adding the Zyxel C3000Z back in as the router. I now get 940/940 speeds wired to either the Orbi or the C3000Z. I even get decent results using the speed test function in the Orbi (850/930). Sad the Orbi couldn't hack it to do routing/nat/wifi. Oh and I even turned on ipv6 in the C3000Z which is working as well ;)

Glad its working now. Ya seen others with this model modem experience same issues with Orbi in router mode. Why I like stand alone modems.
Enjoy. :smileywink:

What are the steps to do this? We just switched from Spectrum to CenturyLink and I have this model modem. The way our home is constructed, the modem is in a closet, so I'd like to get the Orbis (router and 1 satellite) back in the network as access points to bolster speeds.

Turn off Wifi on your "modem" (the unit centurylink provided). Change your orbi to AP mode (advanced tab, advanced setup, router/ap mode). Connerct one of the ethernet ports of the CL "modem" to the WAN port of your Orbi

So that will effectively kill the wifi networks on the combo unit and make my old wifi network on the Orbi visible again?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

The ONT (I think?) is secured outside the house, the modem/router combo unit is the Xyxel C3000Z. The modem/router unit was installed in a coat closet as that is where the house smart panel is located. I don't see a way to relocate the modem/router unit, so I'm planning on putting the Orbi base station in AP mode and connecting it to the LAN port on the Zyxel and putting a satellite where the base station originally was once some extension cords arrive.
