Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000
I have the following product Orbi AC3000 Tri-band WiFi Router (RBR50) and I would like to create a mixed local area network using a network switch to connect devices such as pc, smart tv, printer and...

Those will work find until your ready to upgrade.
I recommend getting the non (E) versions of the switches.
I found a bit cheaper pricing by getting used or refurb'd equipment.Good Luck.

Given the prices, I guess I'll have the 6a stp cable installed and I'll buy the two switches GS-308 and GS305.

Disputable if link speeds to drive AX3000 systems where already the 5 GHz AP part can reach a throughput well and ways beyond of what a 1GbE can offer While it's meaningful to have such fast wireless connections for the wireless backhaul - for deploying a wired backhaul not having at least 2.5 GbE available, it's a waste of technology.
Yes, I do understand why Netgear has opted for just a 1 GbE: Cost!

One question, my PC's LAN card is gigabit, if I use a 2.5Gbps switch, will the speed always be 1Gbps even if I have 2.5Gbps fibre?
- schumakuSep 05, 2023Guru - Experienced UserFor this particular PC, and this network connection, yes.
Reality will be in the 940...950 Mbps due to protocol overhead. - pierre22Sep 05, 2023Aspirantso in addition to multigig switches I should use lan cards that support 2.5Gbps.

I was offered 2.5Gbps fiber for download and 1 Gbps for upload, what do I need besides 2.5Gbps switches bearing in mind that I have a gigabit Orbi?
- FURRYe38Sep 07, 2023Guru - Experienced User
Since the Orbi 50 series doesn't support anything over 1000Mpbs WAN and LAN, you'll not get 2.5Gb from the ISP ever if you use this model router. Would not benefit you with having 2.5Gb LAN speeds unless you want to prepare the LAN side for higher speeds with PC cards and multi gig switches on the LAN side.
To get ISP speeds from the WAN side you'll need a modem/ONT and a wifi router that supports multi gig speeds on both WAN and LAN side beyong 1000Mpbs.

The provider sent me the following note:
The performances indicated - up to 2.5 overall in download - refer to the maximum theoretical values achievable, divided between Ethernet ports (4 ports at 1 Gbit/s) and WiFi network (Wi-Fi 6 standard, up to 3.6 Gbit /s) - FURRYe38Sep 07, 2023Guru - Experienced User
Thats over all combined speeds. One single device will never see anything past 1GB using the Orbi 50 series router system.
- pierre22Sep 07, 2023Aspirant
So is the orbi 50 any good?
- FURRYe38Sep 07, 2023Guru - Experienced User
It's good and up to about 900Mpbs range on ethernet. Wifi you may see up to 500-600Mpbs depending on wifi device support and design.

the telephone company offered me 2.5Gbps fibre, I would need a 2.5 router and a switch compatible with 2.5Gb speed, what do you recommend, I have already purchased the spool of cat cable. 6a u/ftp.

Or https://www.netgear.com/home/wifi/mesh/rbke962/
Both have 10Gb WAN and LAN ports. The Orbi has 2.5Gb LAN port so you'd seen 2.5Gb from the WAN side to the LAN side.

Is there a black version of this series?
- FURRYe38Sep 13, 2023Guru - Experienced User
Look at the model selection tiles on that page.

I would also need a switch that is compatible with 2.5Gbps speeds.
The scheme should be as follows:
Fiber modem -> Orbi rbk962 -> 2.5gb switch -> other devices - FURRYe38Sep 13, 2023Guru - Experienced User
NGs XS505M and GS110MX work great with the 9 series.
- pierre22Sep 13, 2023Aspirant
I connect the cable that comes from the 2.5GB Orbi RB962 router to port no. 9 of the GS110MX switch, I connect the other devices via cable to the 1GB ports, while I connect the cable that connects the satellite to port no. 10, it's right?

One of the reasons for 2.5 GbE (and to some extent 5 GbE) is the possibility to re-use existing wiring, starting from CAT5E - certainly for 2.5 GbE (e.g. for access point installations). Some cable vendors of thin u/ftp are suggesting to limit the installation length of CAT6 and CAT6A with lower cost (and outer diameter) cables to pull into thin installation tubes.

If I purchase the black version with 3 pieces, 1 router and 2 satellites, how should I connect them to the switch, one to the 2.5 port and the other to the 1GB port?
So was I right to buy that type of cable or not?
- FURRYe38Sep 13, 2023Guru - Experienced User
You can ethernet connect the additional RBS using there 1Gb ports to the 1Gb port on the switch.
For any 2.5GB rated or higher speeds, CAT6A STP is recommended.
