Hello arn0ld ,
Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!
I understand that you have been experiencing network connectivity issues between your Orbi router and Orbi satellite on firmware version 2.7.4.24. Before blocking the auto update process please consider our most updated firmware for the RBK50 system version 2.7.5.4.
Please navigate to the link below for the download file for your RBR50 (Be sure to update your Orbi satellite before the router):

use opendns to block netgear update ip address .
Perhaps this is case of nit-picking terminology (if so, I apologize) but there is not a single IP address for Netgear updates. There are (literally) dozens of IP addresses located around the world. In order to use OpenDNS to block the Orbi router from updating firmware, it must be instructed to block these URLs (not IP addresses):
update.netgear.com,
updates.netgear.com,
updates1.netgear.com,
updates2.netgear.com,
updates3.netgear.com,
http.fw.updates1.netgear.com

Yes i did block these URL, sorry for use wrong word "ip address" .
Does the blocking via opendns solotion work with you ?
Please check my setup in opendns and in orbi setting. Did i setup right enough to disable auto update ?- CrimpOnDec 04, 2023Guru - Experienced User
Well this is indeed a puzzle. I, personally, do not attempt to block firmware updates. (I keep hoping that Netgear will release a new one for my old RBR50.)
What happens when you attempt to ping these addresses? for example:
C:\Users\xxx>ping http.fw.updates1.netgear.com
Pinging e70.g.akamaiedge.net [23.49.107.37] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 23.49.107.37: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=54
Reply from 23.49.107.37: bytes=32 time=13ms TTL=54
Reply from 23.49.107.37: bytes=32 time=14ms TTL=54
Reply from 23.49.107.37: bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=54Ping statistics for 23.49.107.37:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 13ms, Maximum = 24ms, Average = 16ms- CrimpOnDec 04, 2023Guru - Experienced User
Truly a puzzle. Just now, I used the Orbi Debug page to capture everything going through the WAN port. Saved the capture to my computer (debug-log.zip), and opened the file wan.pcap with Wireshark (there are other programs that will also open pcap files). In addition to dozens of DNS requests for http.fw.updates1.netgear.com , there were also requests for devcom.up.netgear.com and ocmaintenance.netgear.com
Can you block those two URLs and see what happens?
Once the capture was going, my test process was to open the Firmware Update menu and wait for it to finish the process. Then I stopped the capture and the debug file was saved to my computer. Just as an 'aside', whoever programmed the Firmware Update process chose strange language. First it says, "No New Firmware". Then "Downloading Firmware." Then "No New Firmware". There must be a definition of "Downloading" that means something besides what it appears to mean.
Can you block those two URLs and perform a similar test?

Thank to Kevin and Crimpon for support,
I have updated my RBK50 system to 2.7.5.4. Hope that it can run stable, i will feedback after fewdays.
Why don't netgear open disable auto update for RBK50 system. There are alot of user got same problem like me on 2.7.4 firmware version. The rbk50's hardware don't have any problem, just the version of firmware let the satellite work not stable
