Is there perhaps a typo? Computer 1 uses the USB adapter, but then Computer 2 is disconnected?
What USB adapter is this? (brand & model)
Computer 1 is the only device connected to the USB adapter?
There is probably a reason that Computer 1 is disconnected from the USB adapter rather than the USB adapter disconnected from the Orbi? (Computer 1 is a laptop and isn't portable unless it is disconnected from the USB adapter, so why unplug two connections?)

Yes, you are correct. It's a typo. Good catch!
When I disconnect computer 1 from the USB ethernet adapter, it causes the satellite to lose the backhaul connection and thus any device connected to the satellite will have no internet connection.
When this happens, the satellite is shown as offline in the Netgear Orbi admin panel/app. I can confirm device connected to the main router still have internet while anything connected to the satellite won't.
Basic connection setup
Internet router RBR50 RBS50 USB adapter USB hub Mac
x------eth-bridge----x
x----eth-backhaul-------x
x---------eth----x-----USB------x---USB----x
When the connection between USB hub and Mac is interrupted the satellite goes offline and does not reconnet on its own, even after watiting for 15+ minutes. A reboot (turn off, turn on) is needed in order for the satellite to sync again to the main router.
There is no switch on the ethernet backhaul connection, router and satellite are wired directly. The USB ethernet adapter is SVEON SCT222, with chipset rtl5183.
I have tried downgrading the firmware from 2.7. to 2.6.1.40, but the problem persists.
