I just replaced an Asus router with Orbi RBK43 I sit at one computer with big monitors and use VNC to remote desktop share my laptop. The laptop is using a VPN connection back to my office I...

Is this one of the new laptops that has no ethernet jack? Would be really convenient to be able to rule out WiFi as being part of the problem.

Great question from CrimpOn...
The hang only occus on my desktop that is running VNC viewer and has a wired connection to the Orbi.
I just got a hang and I quickly got over to the laptop and was able to move windows ... and then back to the desktop - and it was still hanging.
Unfortunately no ethernet jack on the laptop. The docking station (w/ E jack) is still back at the real office which I'm not allowed into.
So far I've tried ...
beamforming
MU-MIMO
WMM (was already on)
Also the Comcast gateway is running (and always has) in bridge mode... no double NAT here.
Other than switching in the Orbi for the old Asus wireless router the networking configuration hasn't changed.

A real puzzle. I installed TightVNC on my desktop and laptop. The laptop is connected to Orbi WiFi 5G and the desktop is wired to the Orbi. VNC on the desktop has been displaying a stopwatch on my laptop for 30 minutes now. (and everything else I do on the laptop) I'll let it go for a while to see what happens.
Just wanted to confirm which computer(s) lose connection and how much they lose. i.e.
- Is it only VNC that stops and has to be restarted?
The desktop and laptop both remain connected to the Orbi and to the internet?
i.e. the office VPN connection stays up on the laptop? - Or.... one of the computers loses connection to the Orbi?
- Is it only VNC that stops and has to be restarted?

Sorry about the brain freeze. Just noticed that you already traced the issue to the desktop that is wired to the Orbi. The laptop continues to function on the VPN. So... it appears to me that discussing WiFi options is pretty much pointless.
Which VNC software are you usiing?

on the laptop: VNC Server (up to date)
on the desktop: VNC Viewer
both from RealVNC... https://www.realvnc.com/en/
as I said, with the old router this was rock solid.

Did we confirm that both the VNC connection and other network connections are disrupted?
or, only the VNC?
What do you do to "reconnect"?
