New Orbi Satellite won't stop flashing white...won't even reset

Can't figure out what to do next...

Have an existing Orbi system that works great (one router and one satellite) and just purchased a new satellite to extend for better coverage in part of our home.  When I plug in the new satellite the ring will not stop flashing white...doesn't matter what I do it never stops flashing white.  I've tried the reset and can't get the ring to turn amber...just flashing white.

Hoping that someone has a suggestion I can try!

Thanks!

Did you "sync" the new satellite to the Orbi router?  There are two ways to do that.  The easiest is to press the "sync" button on the satellite and then within two minutes press the sync button on the router.

This video shows the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePZSc7vnRlQ

      Thanks for your reply CrimpOn.

No, I have attempted to sync in this manner and am not successful.  The sattelite never stops flashing/pulsing white and the router does not detect it (even when side by side).

What Firmware is currently loaded on the existing system?
What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?

Was the Orbi satellite a recent addition to an existing system? If so, the RBS maybe out of sync with FW and needs to be updated first.

What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

      Thanks for your reply Sensei!

The router firmware is currently running v.2.3.1.60

The modem is an Arris SURFboard SBG6782-AC with wifi disabled.

I have an existing Orbi sattelite that is working wonderfully with the router...this new satellite that won't stop flashing is a recent purchase that has never managed to connect to the router.  I have tried syncing at several distances...nothing seems to work.

Is there a way to access the RBS directly to even check the firmware (and then update)?

Sorry, I am pretty clueless on all this!  Appreciate the help!

Orbi satellites can be access using a web browser just like the router can.  i.e. plug in a wired computer, bring up a browser, and...

(This is where you are screwed) enter http://<ip address of the satellite>

You can try it on the satellite that works well.  Look in the Attached Devices to find the IP address of the satellite.  Any computer or smartphone that can access the Orbi will work (doesn't have to be plugged directly into the satellite).  The satellite home screen shows the firmware release and has a menu option to do a Firmware Update.

According to Netgear's web site, "Pulsing White" on the satellite means:

"Your Orbi router and satellite are applying a configuration or updating their firmware."

        https://kb.netgear.com/31030/What-do-the-LEDs-on-my-Orbi-router-and-satellite-mean

Just to clarify, as the web page shows, the "ring" at the top NEVER turns amber.  Only the power LED on the back begins to flash amber when a paperclip is held in the "reset" hole long enough (can take 15-20 seconds).

If the regular factory reset process doesn't work, michaelkenward described an undocumented way to get an Orbi to factory reset:

Press paperclip in reset hole for 30 seconds
Keep pressing paperclip while removing power
Keep pressing paperclip for another 30 seconds while apply power

If this is a recent purchase, maybe the easiest thing to do is return it as defective and purchase another one.
