New Orbi Setup Slow on VPN Sites and With Ethernet Connection
I just purchased the Orbi router with 3 satellites. My internet speed is super fast but I keep getting issues while connected via ethernet directly to the router. The wifi in the house is great, no...

Orbi Model: RBR750
Modem: Technicolor CG4236
Firmware: V4.6.9.11
It is not only VPN. It’s hit or miss. Sometimes great other times terrible. It also seems to do better when not connected to Ethernet and just using Wi-Fi which is counterintuitive. Thank you!

That modem has its own internal router. It causes a double nat.
A double nat happens when you cascade more than 1 router.

Fixes? There’s 3 options but only use 1.
1. Put the modem/gateway in modem only/pass through mode. This disables its routing functions.
2. Leave the modem/gateway in router mode but put the Netgears IP address into its DMZ. This forwards the data to the netgear. You can either leave the modem/gateway’s wireless enabled or disabled. Just make sure its using a different wifi channel to prevent interference
3. Put the Netgear into access point mode. This disables its routing functions. Wifi/ethernet still works but it does disable some features.

I called Breezline - very bad customer service. They told me to disable DHCP. I went into the modems settings and did that. This has not helped. Does that seem like the same thing as putting the modem into pass through mode? Also, I did see that the router on that modem was turned on but it's a totally different SSID that I didn't even recognize. This did NOT help. When my MacBook is connected to the orbi via ethernet it just perform right. Wireless seems to be great. And every other device (and there are a lot of them) in the house do great on WIFI. Something's not right with the ethernet situation.

Disabling DHCP is not enough and not same and putting the modem in to bridge mode.
Try option #2 mentioned in the suggestion list. Put the modem back into its configuration as before then setup the modems DMZ for the RBR.
