Absolutely, don't get me wrong it's wifi coverage is great haven't bothered putting it in ap mode, what's the benefit? Working fine as it is? It's just as I say would be nice to have another power point and one less thing in the loop. Sure I won't be the only
One with this problem so hopefully between Service provider and netgear I can find an answer. So just to clarify no downside running the orbi through a cheap router other than the things I mentioned?

The benefit of AP mode is you can use whatever router you want. In my case I'm using a router with IPSEC sitei-to-site and L2TP remote access VPN capabilities. This allows me secure remote access at the full speed of my Internet connection (80 Mbps.) Some people say AP mode also frees up processor resources and makes Orbi run faster. When another router is in use, using AP mode avoids double NAT, which can cause problems with games and applications that need ports forwarded.
If you get Orbi it working in router mode, please let us know what the problem was. I'm curious what would prevent it from connecting.
