Orbi - Wired Backhaul Setup

I have the below setup

Orbi Router connected to a Non Managed GigaBit Switch. My 2 satellites are connected to the GigaBit switch.

Should I be using the Orbi Router in Router Mode or just as a Satellite?

Can I then use devices off the Orbi ethernet ports and Gigabit switch ports?

  • 1. Operating Orbi in Router or AP mode depends on how you set your ISP modem/router.
To have Orbi in AP mode, the ISP modem has to have router functionality and act as the network router, otherwise Orbi should be in Router mode.
    2. Is the switch connected in Orbi Router ’s WAN port or one of the LAN ports?

My ISP modem can also act as a router. Currently it is running as a Modem and the Orbi as a router. (Connected to the Orbi via WAN port)

I have intermittent problems with streaming 4k, HD.

My switch is connected to the Orbi LAN port.

Then please keep Orbi in Router Mode

This is probably because of an issue in latest Orbi SW packages. Please follow the instructions in this post as a wororkaround: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Wired-Backhaul-in-recent-firmware-releases/td-p/1780008

Ok, then yes, you can connect other wired devices to the same switch if you want to.
