Orbi AC1200 wifi speeds slow with fiber
Upgraded to Open Fiber. Wired up/down speeds 900 M + each. Wifi can only get to 175M up and down. Product is out of warranty so Support won't help me. Any ideas? thanks

What speeds do you get in the speed test in the Orbi app please?
What wired speeds do you get (from e.g. a laptop wired to Orbi)?
Do you have issues with devices attached to satellites or also to those attached to the router?

Hello Ekhalili, see below
What speeds do you get in the speed test in the Orbi app please? If I am on top of the main orbi mesh, i can get 500 down and 350 up; once I walk 10 feet away it drops to 250 down and 135 up. So I think the issue is the main orbi mesh. If the satellites are 15 feet away no wonder it is so slow, the main orbi just isnt broadcasting far. I have it on both 5g and 2.4 g

Do you have issues with devices attached to satellites or also to those attached to the router? Satellites are the same speed as above because the main orbi only gives me 500/350 when i am right next to it so cannot expect Satellites to do more
thanks for getting back to me

To improve throughput (MCS values) please make sure that you minimize interference by choosing the fronthaul frequencies that not many neighbors around you are using and reduce obstacles between your devices and Orbi.
Also the wireless capabilities of the mobile device is important to get good speeds. - KevinLiTSep 27, 2022NETGEAR Moderator
Hello bdurham2009,
Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!
Which device are you using to test the speed of your network?

Hi Kevin, I have tried a variety of devices: Iphone 12/14; Various Ipad from 2017-2021; Lenovo T580/T590/T15/T16; LG 16T906-K-ADB9Ui (yes I have access to a lot of IT peripherals.
Note: Plugged right into the router with Cat5 and i am 950/950 down/up all day long.
If I put any of my wireless devices on top of the main Orbi Mesh I can get 560/400 down/up. If i walk 10 feet-15 feet away with nothing impeding it drops to 160 down/120 up. So it is clearly the Orbi mesh dropping speed. Then one of the satellites picks up and it can, by definition, only get equal to or less the 160/120 that i get walking 10-15 feet away.
One thing I want to try when i get home is to plug a cat 5 straight into the open port on the orbi and see if i get reduced speeds, then i guess at least part of it is the Orbi mesh system.
We had 200/10 previously with Spectrum so getting 150 down from the obri's went under radar because 200 was max so didnt pay attention.
thanks
