The internet modem is a Netgear CM600. I am using a CAT6 cable. Should router get internet from the cable modem if it is in AP mode?

No, you'll need to change the RBR back to router mode as the CM modem doesn't have built in router support.

That's the issue. I cannot get into the Orbi router. It's not connected to the internet, so can't use orbilogin.com or orbilogin.net. I tried accessing it by connecting the laptop via ethernet to the Orbi and using the default IP - does not work. I tried connecting to the router using the IP address the firewall app displayed for it - does not work. What other options are there to get into the Orbi router? Without getting into the Orbi router, how can I change from AP mode back to Router mode?

Press the reset button in back of the RBR for 15 seconds then release. After the top ring starts pulsating WHITE, use a web browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1
Setup from scratch. Default mode after FR is router mode.
