Orbi admin password recovery instructions do not work

I need to log into my router.  I have apparently forgoten my admin password. When I follow the instructions to login to www.orbilogin.com, it takes me to a Netgear page that tells me that I do not appear to be linked to the netowrk of my Orbi router, although the router is the only way that I can get to the internet and thus Netgear's page.  When I attempt to get to 192.168.1.1, I get security notices that it is unsafe (which I bypass), only to wind up at a 401 Not Authorized message - that does not have the Orbi serial number option to login.  I have tried these instructions from several devices and with several browsers, all with the saem results.  Anybody have any ideas besides doing a factory reset?
