What happens if you disconnect the coax from the back of the CBR40, then press the reset button in back for 15 seconds, leaving your wired PC connected to the CBR40. You don't need internet access to access the setup wizard. Your PC should get a 192.168.1.something address and then you should be able to access the CBR40s web page at 192.168.1.1...

Hi blayz1
Welcome to NETGEAR Community!
Please describe LED status.
How did you reset the device? Press and hold the reset button of the router until the power led starts blinking orange. You should notice a click by pressing the reset button.

Just to clarify here is the process..
*Router status on and connected to Internet via ethernet
*click and depress reset button - after about 10 seconds all blue LEDs on front panel turn off - power LED turns blue - 2 center LEDs blink light pink - #4 LED turns blue - then ALL blue LEDs light up sequentially 1-2-3-4...however, no reset or Internet connection is established.
*Only after shutting router down and powering back up it re-connects to Internet and shows old network under avail WiFi connections, along with an additional WiFi connection labeled "Hidden Network"
*Went through this process about 10 times but the router just doesn't seem to want to reset to the factory default settings

Try pressing the reset button for 15 seconds, 10 maybe too short.
Does a wired PC get an IP address after pressing the reset button for 15 seoonds, then let go. Final top LED should slowly pulsate WHITE, this means the CBR40 is ready and the wired PC should have an IP address of 192.168.1.something. Use a web browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. I think it's .1.1.
Let us know if this works.

Furry thanks. When I hold the reset down I can get to the pulsing white on top with 4 solid blues on the front...however, there's no Internet connection to allow access to the IP address. I then have to power the router off and back on in order to get the Internet connection, but it's back to the old account settings again. So something seems to be blocking the reset to factory defaults.

btw...not sure if it means anything, but while holding the reset down the light on top goes from amber to green to purple...and then to the pulsing white.
