Orbi devices can't see each other
When I try to connect from one device on the network to another one, they don't see each other. Any connection attempt just times out.
This answer says I could avoid that problem by switching the router into AP mode instead of router mode.
But this answer says "You certainly need a router on your network." But if I switch the router into AP mode I won't have a router?
How can I have a router and connect my networked devices to each other? Do I need to buy a separate router?

What modem are you using? (model)
What firmware is on your orbi?
What device are having trouble seeing each other? (windows/mac/etc). Windows devices need to be set on "private network" to see/access each other on the network. With sharing enabled.

Modem Arris SB6141
Router Firmware Version V2.3.5.30
Linux.
To be more precise, they can each see each other on `nmap -sn 192.168.1.0/24` "host is up", but can't actually connect. `nc -l 5000` on one and `nc 192.168.1.x 5000` on the other, the latter will eventually time out.
