Orbi disconnects from internet intermittently
I bought an Orbi system with two satellites (RBR40). The Orbi disconnects from the internet every so often and, after a while, reconnects. Here's what I figured out already: 1) It's definitely th...

Problem still not solved and from a quick Google search, it seems thousands of customers are having the same problem. After hours of trying to get the actual phone number of Orbi support, I spent even more hours on the phone with Orbi support, who troubleshooted our way to nowhere. Now they are exchanging the physical router unit to make sure it's not a hardware problem, and after that, they are going to send me to the engineers to see if they can create firmware to solve the issue. Not very inspiring since so many are having this same problem and Netgear cannot create firmware that solves it. Good luck to anyone else having this issue - if you're within your return window, RUN DO NOT WALK to your retailer and switch out the Orbi for literally any other mesh network system.
Should the problem ever be solved I will return and update as needed.

it seems thousands of customers
Doubtful. Frustrating for you for sure, but no way there are "thousands" of customers having this issue. I don't there are "thousands" of Orbi systems deployed.

lol ok. Netgear must have fallen on hard times if sales of its mesh network system have not reached four digits yet.
- PdxuserFeb 21, 2018InitiateHaving same issue. Really frequent disconnect issues. Have rebooted, latest firmware, etc.
Unbelievable this is happening with a company like Netgear and the cost of the system.- Ryan5704Feb 21, 2018Initiate
Same issues here. When I got the system a few months back it had an older firmware that per all the google searches is the most stable. Well like many other reviewers of this system stated it worked great for the first few weeks then started to drop the wifi every night between 9:30-10:30. At first it would fix itself in about 3-6 minutes. But now when the wifi drops I need to push in the reset on the main unit to get it going again. My TV which is hard wired to the main orbi works fine its all the wifi devices that keep losing connection. I have now tried different firmware, auto and manual updates, turning Mu-mimo and Beamforming on and off with no luck. I'm getting close to the Costco return window and I'm ready to just box it back up. When this system does work its great. Excellent coverage and fast speed but whats the use if it disconnects while I'm away and my entire house dissconects.

I am having a similar problem where on two different desktops, I lose wifi, yet on iphone and ipad, wifi works fine. windows troubleshooter says i do not have have a valid IP adress. After a bit the wifi comes back on.
I am not sure my setup is correct. I am using an Arris surfboard cable modem (SB190) with ethernet cable running to "internet" port on the Orbi router. I have an ethernet cable running to a desktop computer from the orbi router "internet" port. This desktop has great signal from the orbi.
I need to insert a switch to run an ethernet cable to an Arlo device. I tried placing the switch between the modem and the orbi but it did not seem to work correctly. Came anyone advise me where I should put the switch in my setup.

What Firmware is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the ethernet switch if one is in the configuration. The switch should be connected after the RBR. Not before.
ISP modem>RBR>LAN switch<Lan devices connected to the switch.
Be sure to setup a IP address reservation for your devices ON the RBR.
