Orbi NBK50 not recognized by older Samsung Smart TV

Orbi AC3000 Wifi Router isn't recognized by an older Samsung Series 7 Smart TV. The Smart TV doesn't even identify the new WiFi nework. The TV supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g and n comm. protocol. Thinking the Orbi can't support this. All other devices in the house can connect to the new Mesh network. Ideas?

    New setup?

is the tv dependent on either 2.4 or 5g but not both?

does the tv require an iPhone for setup?

Well a new setup using the Orbi. The TV connected in the past with WiFi from my Uverse router/modem. I'm not sure if the TV can use one or the other or both. I've searched but can't find the answer. The TV isn't configured using an Iphone app. It's configured directly on the TV.

The Orbi certainly supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n.  You may need to "reset" the tv and begin a WiFi setup from scratch.

I'd put this the other way round. The TV does not recognise the wifi from your router.

This is important because it guides you when troubleshooting. You have to look in the right place.

Having grappled with Samsung smart devices, I know that they can be picky. But the trouble is invariably at that end of the chain.

The configuration interface of the Samsung isn't the easiest to handle. Have you reset everything there and started from scratch?

Before anyone tells you that it is because the Orbi combines 2.4GHz and 5 GHz on one SSID, the TV probably won't see 5 GHz. So that is a red herring, especially as you say that you are using the TV's controls for setup.

If you really want to convince yourself, turn off the broadcast of the 5 GHz SSID.

I gave up fighting with Samsung's ropey wifi. (A newer Panasonic is more intelligent.) It still works, as I confirmed recently, but I opted for a wired connection using Powerline Ethernet. Easier to set up than wifi and less likely to fall over. If, that is, your Samsung has an Ethernet port. I run a Samsung and Panasonic (bought when the BBC killed iPlayer on the Samsing) off a single dual-port plug.

I'm convinced the issue is on the TV side as well. I reset the Samsung TV to the factory defaults. Upon restart the TV recognized numerous Wifi networks including the Orbi. I selected the Orbi, pressed "Next" and the TV wouldn't transition to the next step. I sort of patiently waited but nothing happened. I went back to the previous step and then had it search again and it found nothing. I've done a factory reset several more times and I get nothing. So frustrating. I do have a Netgear Powerline ethernet device nearby. I would have to purchase a switch for it because it's only single port. My other thought is getting a Firestick or similar device because I have zero confidence that I can get the TV Wifi to work.

yup....the firestick may be your best fix.  in your original post i noted you said 'old' tv.  maybe too old..??  but it did work with your other router?  the major difference between the 2 routers is that the orbi combines the wifi signals

i have a non-smart tv and use a firestickk on it and that works fine.

Spent 5 hours with Orbi support but we were never able to get the Wifi to connect. Tried too many things to mention. Eventually decided to plug our Apple TV device into the Smart TV. Problem solved until I purchased a newer TV
