Thanks for the info.
I’m not really this applies to the setup of the host computer (Laptop) inside the network behind the router. I can understand that the set up may be an issue for incoming connections to control the host computer.

I got my openvpn to work on orbi, behind a modem/router from frontier. But it sucks for streaming video from cameras (disconnects) or remote desktop disconnects as well. I have a case open with netgear but getting little help. The Disney Circle thingy too has issues and will freeze your internet at times and i have to disable/re-enable this from the webpage.
If your Orbi is setup using a wan port:
Assuming your modem is a router, you will need to do port forwarding to the ip address of the router, If you don't know the ip of the orbi, go to the orbi login routerlogin.net, go to the internet section, where is says Domain Name Sever (DNS) Address, it should be set to Get Automatically from ISP, and to the right you should see in grey what the ip address is that it's using. From your modem/router, you will need to login and go to the firewall/port forward section and do a port forward to this ip address. The keep it simple the ports will be udp/rdp 12973 and 12974 (two separate rules for me).
Since your orbi device is not the main router, your modem/router will needs to forward these ports to your orbie and your devices are all connected to orbi only.
