Orbi RBR 50 need wireless adapter for a generator

Hi all - I recently installed an Orbi system with its security features. I have an old TP-Link adaptor to connect the network cable output of the generator to my wireless network, and the security software suggests it’s a potential security problem. Does NetGear have an inexpensive device like the TP link to link the generator without needing to purchase another Orbi satellite?
  • I've seen people use cheap wireless extenders with ethernet ports for this purpose. It won't "mesh" with orbi but it should connect and allow you to use the ethernet port.

The $20US TP-Link N300 has been my "go to" answer for this sort of question.  Would mind sharing the details of what Armor said was wrong with your TP-Link extender?

Yes of course - thanks for your interest in my issue. I think Orbi is fantastic too (replacing Apple routers). My home backup generator was installed quite a few years ago with a TP-Link WR -710N in client mode. Back when we could travel, it was nice to see the generator working remotely in winter power failures using the Kohler app. I honestly never worried about network vulnerability. With the new Orbi system, Armor flagged as follows:

      1) Device update highly recommended

      2) Device lock-out vulnerability detected

      3) Admin account access vulnerability detected.

I updated the TP-Link firmware (it hadn't been done since install), and tightened up the password which I believe had been the default, or just something flimsy. Maybe I solved the issue already with the firmware update and new password.

I contacted my generator service guy to see what he uses now - He still uses TP-Link, Model N300.
